The Simcoe County Home Builders’ Association is organizing a lunch event on March 26, featuring Emily O’Brien, the founder of Comeback Snacks, a unique popcorn business. The gathering will take place from 11 a. m. to 2 p. m.

O’Brien started her company after completing a federal prison sentence and aims to combine exciting popcorn flavors with a mission to break down the stigma surrounding individuals with criminal records. Comeback Snacks, which was previously called Cons and Kernels, is now available in over 1,200 locations across Canada and the United States.

This entrepreneur has earned several awards for her leadership and community impact, including the 2020 YWCA Hamilton Business Leadership and Entrepreneurship Award, the Entrepreneur of the Year at the Women’s Empowerment Awards, the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Award for Community Service in 2022, and the Sobeys Diversity Award in 2025. Additionally, she was recognized as one of the Top 50 Global Women in Sustainability in 2025.

O’Brien often shares her story with various media outlets such as CBC, CTV, Global, , i Heart Radio, CHCH and VICE. She also advocates for reintegration programs that offer education, training and job opportunities for those with past convictions.

The lunch will give attendees valuable insights into entrepreneurship, social impact and leadership. Tickets can be purchased through the Simcoe County Home Builders’ Association.
