Police from the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation are collaborating with Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) after a body was discovered in a vehicle that was on fire early Thursday morning.

At 2:58 a. m., officers responded along with the Oneida Nation fire department to Jubilee Road at Mount Elgin Drive, located in Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, just south of London, following reports of a vehicle blaze.

An individual was found deceased inside the car, but authorities stated it’s too early to determine if foul play is involved.

“It hasn’t been determined either way as the investigation is in the very early stages,” said OPP Const. Jeff Hare.

The roads were closed for several hours while investigators worked at the scene, but they have since been reopened.

The OPP’s Middlesex County crime unit and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal are now participating in this investigation.

The inquiry is ongoing, police noted. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact them or reach out to Crime Stoppers.
