Ontario Power Generation and the provincial government have shared a list of key supply chain vendors that will offer specialized expertise and services for the $26.8 billion refurbishment project at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station.
The initiative is set to begin in early 2027, with 90 percent of the total spending occurring within Canada.
Announced on Wednesday by Ontario Energy Minister Stephen Lecce, this project is anticipated to generate over 30,000 jobs during construction and maintain 6,700 jobs throughout its operation while boosting Canada’s GDP by $41.6 billion.
Chris Keefer, President of Canadians for Nuclear Energy, described the announcement as “one of the most important industrial decisions in modern Canada,” emphasizing that Pickering has “earned the right” for refurbishment which will extend the nuclear plant’s life by another 38 years.
“This is nation building at its best.”
