We are heartbroken to share the news of Rick (Richard Hugh Henry) Joseph’s passing at the age of 81. He left us peacefully on February 16, 2026, surrounded by his family after bravely fighting lung cancer.
Born in Vancouver, BC, in 1944 to Clifford Joseph and Thora (Burnie, Joseph) Campbell, Rick moved with his family to Fort William (Thunder Bay) when he was young. He lived there for most of his life and enjoyed time at their lake house in Shuniah. Throughout his career, he worked with the MTO as a surveyor and draftsman until retiring at age 49. This gave him plenty of time to travel and spend winters in Florida with his wife, tend to his garden filled with flowers and vegetables, play golf, and enjoy moments with family.
Rick was married for nearly 60 years and is survived by his wife Theresa (Butvin); daughter Stacie (Phil); grandchildren Cody (Jessica), Kelsey (Kane); great-grandson Layne Richard along with Alyssa and Caitlyn; daughter Terrie (Gary) and their grand-dog Zeus. He is also survived by brothers David, Gary, and Gordon (Janice), along with many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the Da Vinci Centre on Thursday, February 26, 2026 from 1-4 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions to The Northern Cancer Fund and WE-Can program would be greatly appreciated.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone at the Regional Cancer Centre-especially Dr. Ibrahim-as well as the caring nurses from unit 1A. We also appreciate Kelsey and Mc Kenzy from unit 2A for guiding us during this tough time and Chris and Justin from Para Med for their outstanding home care.
Rick will be missed dearly by family and friends alike; however, his spirit will carry on through all the stories we share.
The arrangements have been handled by Simpler Times Cremation Centre located at 575 Central Avenue in Thunder Bay.
