The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) is leading the way in development as the city’s downtown area continues to change.
Over a decade into its growth, the VMC has become a central spot for community events, new buildings, and important city projects. As more amenities open up and residents find more ways to live, work, play, and connect, the VMC is shaping up to be the go-to place for the future.
The overall vision is to create a complete mixed-use community that supports transit and is friendly for pedestrians. This includes making the VMC a bustling center for finance, innovation, and culture with a strong focus on environmentally friendly design practices.
The growth of the VMC is overseen by the VMC Sub-Committee, which holds monthly meetings to track progress and make sure the area’s vision is realized. At the February committee meeting, several key topics were addressed including updates on the VMC Transportation Master Plan and changes to the VMC Secondary Plan.
VMC Transportation Master Plan
A new plan is in development for managing transportation needs in downtown through 2051. It aims to enhance street connectivity and accessibility while promoting different transportation options.
Two rounds of public engagement have taken place already, with the latest ending in January 2025. Feedback from these sessions was shared with the sub-committee during their February meeting, and a final report on this plan will be presented to council for approval in June 2025.
VMC Secondary Plan – Phase 4 Update
The secondary plan is now nearing completion and will be brought before Vaughan council this spring. This plan plays an important role in guiding long-term growth and ensuring that it remains a lively and sustainable community.
