On Monday, September 1, just before 9 a. m., officers responded to reports of several suspects breaking into a home near Mc Cowan Road and 14th Avenue. Once inside, the intruders told the family that another member had been taken by different suspects. During this ordeal, a 54-year-old man was shot.
It was later revealed that a 29-year-old woman who lived at the invaded home had been abducted around Mc Cowan Road and Highway 407 at approximately 8 a. m. The victim had been deliberately hit by one of two suspect vehicles, causing her to stop and step out to inspect her car. A second vehicle, described as an older grey Dodge Caravan, pulled up beside her and forced her into their vehicle where she was restrained and taken away from the accident scene.
Officers arrived quickly as the suspects tried to escape. Four suspects were arrested while one remains at large. This fifth suspect is described as male, between 18 to 25 years old, wearing dark clothing, a mask, and gloves. A loaded gun was also found at the scene.
The kidnapped woman was eventually located in Toronto with minor injuries; her vehicle was found not far from where it happened.
A stolen vehicle was recovered from the home invasion site as well. Authorities believe there are still several suspects connected to both the kidnapping and home invasion.
