The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is receiving a one-time boost in funding from the province.
This week, the Ontario government announced it would provide just over $1 million to the TBDHU, aimed at supporting various programs and necessary building repairs.
However, the TBDHU isn’t alone in receiving provincial assistance; about $60 million is being allocated overall for Ontario’s 29 health units.
“We’re experiencing some challenging times and it’s impacting on a lot of budgets,” said Thunder Bay-Atikokan MPP Kevin Holland. “Cost of provision of services has gone up.”
“We’re recognizing that following our conversations with the various health units across the province, and really looking to make sure that we’re.. putting them into position to be successful in the delivery of the programs.”
Representatives from the TBDHU weren’t available for interviews on Thursday, but a spokesperson mentioned via email that the funding will go towards repairs at their main office building and support for vaccine and food security programs.
