May 9, 1929 – February 14, 2026
The family of Greta Montgomery sadly shares that she has passed away at the age of 96 in London, Ontario after a short stay in the hospital. She was predeceased by her dear husband John Montgomery and was the youngest daughter of Catherine and Joe Flannery. Greta was loved deeply by her siblings Norman Flannery, Imelda Hipkin, Roy Flannery, Emily Montgomery, Alma Flannery, and Hilda Reilly-Cooke, all of whom have also passed on. She was a beloved sister-in-law to Joe Hipkin, Doreen Flannery & Andrew Reilly and a close friend to her mentor Evelyn Irish (who has also passed). Greta will be missed dearly by many nieces and nephews along with their children & grandchildren. We want to show our heartfelt respect & gratitude for her generation as it comes to an end in our family. Each one of us will always treasure her guidance, support, playful spirit, laughter & memories we shared together. Greta had unwavering faith and dedication. Her love for family & God was unmatched. She would often show up uninvited with warmth and understanding when needed most. As a proud registered nurse for over forty years, she worked across California & Barrie before settling down in Sudbury where she felt truly at home for many years. There she built strong connections with friends & colleagues that our family appreciates greatly as she flourished there feeling like she belonged. Education was very important to her and while she had dreams of traveling more than life allowed her to experience those adventures were limited. We are especially thankful to our cousin Eileen Parker & her family for their loving care towards Aunt Greta over the past couple of years as well as the compassionate staff at Highview Residences in London Ontario. We also appreciate the care given by London Health Science Centre and University Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit during this time as Eileen stayed by Greta’s side until God called her home.
“Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed”
Words of love are gifts to all hearts. You will forever be in our Hearts.
