Rene Jean Pelot, age 70, passed away peacefully at Roseview Manor on Monday, February 16, 2026.
Born on October 23, 1955 in Hornepayne, Rene lived with his family in Caramat before moving to Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) in 1957. After finishing high school, he trained as a Heavy Equipment mechanic and earned his inter-provincial ticket, becoming a skilled welder. He had a passion for engines and could fix just about anything.
Mental health challenges emerged early in his adult life, leading to a shift in Rene’s path. After some time in institutional care, his parents brought him home. For the next twenty-five years, he worked as a yard man at their business Lappe Lumber in Gorham Township. This period was fulfilling for Rene; he kept active and enjoyed interacting with many customers who visited the yard. He always had something to say!
Rene was predeceased by his parents Ivan and Madge. He is survived by siblings Margaret, Catherine, and Richard (Aila), along with many nieces and nephews.
