After a brave fight against cancer, Irene Wakula-Oltsher from Thunder Bay passed away peacefully in the early hours of February 12, 2026. She was born on October 14, 1955, in Fort William.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents Doris and Stanley Wakula and her Aunt and Uncle Soltinuk. They all moved to Fort William together after the war. Embracing the Ukrainian community became their family. Irene took great pride in her Ukrainian roots, and her faith in God provided her with strength and direction throughout her life. She will be greatly missed by cousins Pat & Lil, Lesia & family along with her circle of friends Kim and Godson James, Carol & Ian, Marusia & Sonya, Frank and Bill. We appreciate the love and support you all gave to Irene. Lesia & Marusia, your emails and photos meant so much to her.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurses, PSWs, and staff at TBRHSC, St Joseph’s Hospital, Southbridge Lakehead, and Hogarth Riverview.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be scheduled later at Mountain View Cemetery.

If you wish to make a donation in memory of Irene, please consider contributing to the Northern Cancer Fund at healthsciencesfoundation. ca

Give her eternal rest, O Lord
and may your light shine on her forever.

Condolences can be expressed through www. nwfainc. com
