Highway 410 is set to be extended north of Brampton to connect with the upcoming Highway 413.
Ontario’s Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria shared details about the project today, explaining that this extension will link Highway 410, which runs north-south through Brampton, to Highway 413, which will traverse Caledon while connecting Highway 400 to Highways 401 and 407.
The minister mentioned that the province is putting out a request for proposals to design the extension of Highway 410. This will start at Countryside Drive and stretch nine kilometres north up to the 413. Additionally, part of the work will include a new connection from Highway 413 heading west towards Highway 10.
The Ministry of Transportation claims that this extension could save commuters around 30 minutes on their journeys.
“This extension will give drivers a direct link between the two highways, cutting travel times and relieving gridlock on local roads,” said Sarkaria.
He emphasized the necessity for Highway 413, a project that has sparked controversy since its announcement. Many residents and politicians have raised concerns about its impact on environmentally sensitive areas and farmland.
“Building Highway 413 will help protect Ontario against U. S. tariffs and global economic uncertainty by improving the movement of people and goods and keeping more than 6,000 workers on the job during construction,” Sarkaria stated.
The expansion of Highway 410 is one among several projects currently in progress as work commences on the new Highway 413 corridor. In August, Ontario awarded initial construction contracts for building Highway 413. The province has also recently completed upgrades to the interchange between Highways 401 and 407, which marks the western end of Highway 413.
