With heavy hearts, we share the news of Wayne’s peaceful passing at the age of 81 on July 26, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving and devoted family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Dorothy (nee Landauer). Wayne was a cherished father to Cheryl Tratechaud (Kelly), Jeff Thurlow (Jennifer), John Rivait (Erica), Brenda Chauvin (Bob)(Andy Bonnett, 2022), and Renee Rivait. He took great pride in being Papa to Kevin, Rachel, Dillon, Lily, Paige, Logan, Kendra (Bobby), Tyler (Courtney), Bradley (Alex), Jayden, Justin, and great-papa to Spencer, Andrew, and Wyatt. Wayne was also a dear brother to Doreen Ulch (Karl, 1973), David (Carmen), Roger (Maxine), Glen Kirkpatrick (Val), Colleen Cowin (Allan), and brother-in-law to Linda Azzopardi (Mario). Many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends will miss him dearly along with his furry friend Lucy.
Wayne had a way of being friends with everyone he met. He was always there to lend a hand whenever someone needed help. His knack for fixing things came naturally to him; he did it all with a smile and an open heart.
A proud member of the Windsor Yacht Club since 1985, Wayne also enjoyed playing Euchre with the Club League alongside his daughter Cheryl.
Cars and racing were where Wayne found his true happiness. As a lifelong fan especially of vintage cars and his Corvette, you could often spot him working under the hood with his son Jeff or cheering loudly for his favorite NASCAR drivers at races. Whether at the race track or in his garage tinkering away on projects, he thrived on speed and horsepower.
The family wants to extend their gratitude to the staff and doctors at Hospice of Windsor for their wonderful care during this time. Memorial Visitation will be held at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME – BANWELL CHAPEL, 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E. (519-253-7235) on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 from 3-5 pm and again from 7-9 pm. There will be a private family service afterward.
If you’d like to honor Wayne’s memory instead of sending flowers, please consider making a donation to Hospice of Windsor. You can share your condolences or fond memories with the family online at www. windsorchapel. com
