The province of Ontario has shared plans to invest nearly $40 million to give Wasaga Beach a fresh start.

On Friday, Premier Doug Ford mentioned that $25 million will be allocated for the renovation of the Nancy Island Historic Site. This site features a museum that showcases the battle where the HMS Nancy captured two U. S. schooners before it was sunk during the War of 1812.

Ontario will also spend $11 million on improving roads around the beach to enhance tourism and support a proposed development of 3,000 homes, along with an additional $2 million dedicated to upgrading downtown Wasaga Beach.

Ford added that part of the beach currently owned by the province will be handed over to the town with the stipulation that it must remain public access.

Tourism Minister Stan Cho stated that there will soon be a marketing campaign launched to attract visitors to various attractions in Ontario, including Wasaga Beach, known as the world’s longest freshwater beach.
