PETERBOROUGH-Peterborough County OPP officers have arrested four people for impaired driving within a week.

On June 6, 2025, around 10:30 pm, Peterborough County OPP officers were running R. I. D. E. checks on County Road 4 in Douro-Dummer Township. They spoke with a driver who had just entered the checkpoint. During their conversation, the officer noticed an open alcohol container, according to police reports. The driver was then arrested and taken to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.

Eddie Williams-Watson (age 35) from Curve Lake, ON., was arrested and charged with;

·      Operation while impaired

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Dangerous operation

The accused had their driver’s license suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days. They are set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on July 15, 2025.

On June 8, 2025, just before 2:30 am, Peterborough County OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint involving a person believed to be impaired leaving a home. Officers found the vehicle on Highway 7 in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township. The driver was arrested and brought to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for testing.

The accused had their driver’s license suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days. They are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on July 22, 2025.

On Tuesday June 10, 2025, just after 3:00 pm, Peterborough County OPP officers responded to another traffic complaint on Highway 28 in Douro-Dummer Township. The complainant reported that a vehicle seemed unable to maintain its lane. Officers patrolled the area and located the vehicle.

Jonathan Maika (age 31) from Pembroke, ON., was arrested and charged with;

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their driver’s license suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days. They are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on July 15, 2025.

On Tuesday June 10, 2025, just before 9:30 pm, a Peterborough County OPP officer was patrolling Highway 7 in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township when they received an alert from their Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system about a vehicle passing by in the opposite direction. The officer pulled over the car to ask about an issue related to its license plate. During this interaction, it became clear that the driver might be under alcohol’s influence; thus an arrest occurred. The driver was taken to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.

Jody Nicholas (age 38) from Norwood, ON., was arrested and charged with;

·      Operation while impaired

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Operation while Prohibited under the Criminal Code

·      Driving while under suspension

·      Use plate not authorized for vehicle

The accused had their driver’s license further suspended for another period of 90 days; their vehicle has been impounded for seven days as well. They are set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on July 8, 2025.

The Peterborough County OPP urges drivers to plan ahead if consuming alcohol or drugs-use a designated driver or other safe transport options like cabs or public transit-or stay overnight where you are drinking. Even small amounts can impair your judgment.
