A deadly tent fire in St. Catharines has been classified as a homicide.
The blaze was spotted by police while they were patrolling the Glendale Avenue area and noticed a fire in the wooded section of Mountain Locks Park on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 3:15 a. m., according to the Niagara Regional Police Service’s earlier report this week.
The large and active fire involved a tent located in the forested area. Firefighters from St. Catharines extinguished the flames and discovered the body of a man.
Authorities announced today that they have ruled the incident as a homicide. The investigation is now being handled by the Niagara Regional Police Service Homicide Unit, with support from the 1 District Detective office and Forensic Services Unit.
The victim has been named as 53-year-old Kenneth Dombroskie, who was reportedly homeless.
