NEWS RELEASE
COUNTY OF SIMCOE
*************************
The County of Simcoe is gearing up for Battery Collection Week, which starts on Monday, Nov. 3, 2025.

This program is important for encouraging the safe and eco-friendly disposal of household batteries, and we invite all residents to join in protecting our environment.

If you have a battery bag, please make use of it. Due to delivery issues with Canada Post, battery bags weren’t sent out this year. However, you can pick them up at all county waste facilities and some other selected locations throughout the county. To see the complete list of pickup spots, please click here.

If you don’t have a battery bag or need more space, feel free to use a large clear resealable bag instead. On your scheduled collection day during the week of Nov. 3, place your bag of batteries on top of your waste cart rather than inside it. This helps ensure that the batteries are clearly visible and easy for collection crews to access.

You can include dry cell single-use batteries like standard AA, AAA, C, D and nine-volt batteries as well as button batteries. Because of regulations, only undamaged single-use dry cell batteries are accepted for curbside collection.

Batteries that cannot be collected include rechargeable battery packs (Ni Cad, Ni MH or lithium-ion – usually found in laptops and cell phones), car batteries, industrial batteries and battery packs. These should be taken to a household hazardous waste depot at no cost throughout the year.

Properly disposing of batteries keeps harmful chemicals from entering our environment and helps save valuable resources. By participating in Battery Collection Week, you’re making a positive impact towards a cleaner and safer environment.

For further details about Battery Collection Week, residents can reach out to the county’s Service Simcoe Contact Centre at 705-735-6901 or [email protected].
