A 24-year-old man from Toronto drowned after his kayak capsized on the waters near River Road East.

The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is looking into a drowning case that occurred in the Town of Wasaga Beach. On Saturday, July 26, 2025, at around 1:05 p. m., emergency services were called to a residence on River Road East after reports came in about a missing kayaker. A 24-year-old male from Toronto had been kayaking with two others when their kayak flipped over. While the others quickly managed to resurface, one individual did not come back up. When they arrived, the Wasaga Beach Fire Department found and retrieved the missing person and began resuscitation efforts. The individual was taken to hospital by County of Simcoe Paramedic Services but was later pronounced dead. The name of the victim is being withheld at this time to respect the family’s privacy. The OPP appreciates all members of the public who offered assistance during this incident. The investigation is still ongoing.
