The Oliver Road hotel will have 129 guest rooms, including 77 specifically designed for longer stays.
THUNDER BAY – The upcoming Hyatt House hotel in Thunder Bay is gearing up to welcome its first guests by the end of March.
General manager Raymond Nadeau expressed his enthusiasm about opening the hotel, located at 1165 Oliver Road, on March 26.
“We’re getting close,” he said.
Nadeau mentioned that the hotel is a bustling place as everything starts coming together, but there are still some “hurdles” to overcome before opening day.
“We need to finalize all our permits and get everything in order, but we’re aiming for March 26,” he said. “There are certain brand requirements from Hyatt that we must meet and they’ll be here over the next six weeks.”
The hotel’s opening was initially planned for 2025, but Nadeau noted that winters in Thunder Bay can be quite challenging.
“We’re thrilled with our progress now and looking forward to finishing strong,” he said.
Out of the hotel’s total of 129 guest rooms, 77 will be extended stay suites while 52 will feature den-style layouts, according to Nadeau.
The dens resemble standard hotel rooms equipped with a bed, sleeper sofa, microwave, and fridge.
The suites offer more space with a full fridge, cooktop, and dishwasher.
“They’re aimed at guests who might be staying for work or business purposes,” Nadeau explained.
The Hyatt House will also include amenities like a gym, pool, gathering room, and what Nadeau refers to as an ‘H bar’, which provides an evening experience featuring food and drinks.
Loyal members of World of Hyatt can enjoy a complimentary breakfast during their stay at the hotel.
Nadeau highlighted that Thunder Bay is an excellent market due to several new hotels being built or planned since it’s the largest urban center between Winnipeg and Sault Ste. Marie.
“There are plenty of attractions drawing people here,” he said. “As a hub city, Thunder Bay has been fortunate enough to maintain a robust market throughout Canada.”
Nadeau also acknowledged Tourism Thunder Bay’s efforts in bringing visitors into the area and pointed out the expanding mining and medical sectors.
