An officer with the Ottawa police was killed in a two-vehicle accident that shut down Highway 7, which is one of the primary routes into Perth, Ont., and an important alternative to Highway 401, as reported by Ontario Provincial Police.
The incident involved a passenger vehicle colliding with a transport truck around 3:45 a. m. on Friday along Highway 7, east of Drummond Street in the area southwest of Ottawa, according to police tweets.
In their news release, authorities identified the driver of the passenger vehicle as Drew Nadeau, a 31-year-old from Perth.
The Ottawa police mentioned via Twitter that Nadeau was a constable returning home after his shift. He previously served as a firefighter in the military before becoming an officer in March 2020.
The truck driver did not sustain any injuries from the crash.
A stretch of about 11 kilometers on Highway 7 was closed between Lanark Road or County Road 511 and Drummond Concession 7.
