Toronto ETO showcases traditional Chinese arts for the Year of the Horse
The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) (Toronto ETO) hosted knotting and paper crafting workshops during the Fête Chinoise Signature Event to mark Lunar New Year 2026 in Toronto, Canada on February 7 (Toronto time), celebrating the Year of the Horse.
Featured in these cultural events were knotting expert Zoe Siu and paper crafting master Hui Ka-hung, both hailing from Hong Kong. Her work honors age-old craftsmanship while appealing to global audiences through a contemporary perspective.
Hui, a skilled artisan with extensive experience in traditional paper crafting, demonstrated his intricate skills during this curated event. Paper crafting is recognized as part of the first Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong, highlighting its importance for cultural preservation. With years of expertise, Hui’s creations exemplify precision and artistic depth in paper crafting.
Mr Bill Wong, Director of Toronto ETO, stated, “We are delighted to bring Hong Kong’s cultural richness to Canada in celebration of the Lunar New Year. The contributions of these artists exemplify the vitality of Hong Kong’s artistic traditions and their evolving expressions on the global stage, as the city continues to position itself as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchanges.”
