WHITBY, ONT. – The new $154.9 million sports and recreation complex in Whitby is taking shape on the west side of Baldwin Street South, close to Highway 407.

Created by Perkins + Will Architecture and constructed by Ledcor, the 160,000-square-foot Whitby Sports Complex is expected to be finished by late 2025. Construction began in September 2023.

This facility will include an aquatic centre with a 25-metre, 10-lane pool, a separate leisure pool, and a second-floor spectator viewing area-making it home to the largest pool in

Durham Region. It will also feature a double gymnasium with a three-lane indoor walking track; a twin-pad arena with ice pads measuring 85 feet by 190 feet; and spaces for community programs, meetings, as well as arts and cultural activities.

SCREENSHOT – Construction is moving forward on Whitby’s new 160,000-square-foot sports complex. Designed by Perkins + Will Architecture and being built by Ledcor, this facility is set for completion in late 2025. Ground was broken in September 2023.

A December 2024 social media update indicated that pool foundations had been laid down solidly, arena concrete floors were taking shape, refrigeration piping for the rink was being installed, and mechanical and electrical systems were progressing.

When completed, sustainability features will make this complex the first zero carbon building and LEED Gold facility in Canada that includes both a twin pad arena and an aquatics facility, according to town officials.

Additionally, the adjoining outdoor park covering 13 acres will include pickleball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, a multi-purpose sports field, playgrounds as well as a skatepark and pump track.
