With great sorrow, the family shares the news of the passing of our beloved wife, mother, nonna and bisnonna, Rosetta Buonocore (née Bonacci), on February 3, 2026. A longtime resident of Thunder Bay, Rosetta left us peacefully at Pioneer Ridge in her 91st year, surrounded by her family.

Born on September 22, 1934 in Decollatura, Catanzaro, Italy, Rosetta moved to Canada in the early 1950s with her husband Giovanni. She dedicated her career to various roles at the Prince Arthur Hotel where she built lasting friendships until she retired in 1985.

Rosetta was passionate about volunteering and devoted much of her time to community organizations. Her contributions included work with the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Multicultural Festival, the Italian Ladies Society of Port Arthur as well as both St. Anthony’s Church Senior’s Club and CWL.

A strong and caring woman, Rosetta found immense joy in being with her family and friends. She loved gardening, playing cards, visiting their family camp on Lake Superior and traveling to Hinkley and Black Bear Casino with friends. Time spent with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was everything to her. This shaped the foundation of her nurturing spirit. Her character was built on deep values such as family bonds, friendship, integrity, honesty, generosity and compassion for everyone whose lives she touched.

Her sons Sal and Sergio (Sonia), grandchildren Caroline (Josh), Allison (James), Jacqueline (Trevor), Jonathon (Ashley), great-grandchildren Marco, Massimo, Liam, Isla, Lorenzo, Matteo, Angelo and Leonardo along with many nieces and nephews across Italy and Australia will miss Rosetta dearly. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Giovanni after 63 years together; also by her parents Antonio and Leonilde; brothers Natale and Angelo; sisters Iolanda, Giulia and Marietta in Italy. Her brother Tommaso still lives in Milano.

The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Scali , Dr. Coccimiglio , and all staff at Pioneer Ridge for their excellent care over recent years. Their compassion towards Rosetta has been unforgettable.

The funeral service for Mrs. Rosetta Buonocore will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday February 10 ,2026 at St. Anthony’s Church led by Father Luigi Filippini. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends can visit from 10:00 am that same day at St. Anthony’s Church.

In lieu of flowers , donations may be made online in memory of Rosetta to Helping Hands Auxiliary for Pioneer Ridge in Thunder Bay if friends wish to contribute.

Arrangements are being handled by Everest Funeral Chapel located at299 Waverley Street near Algoma.

Riposerà per sempre in pace tra le braccia accoglienti di Dio.
