OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk shared a message on social media at 8:30 a. m., urging everyone to avoid driving and mentioned that OPP received over 300 calls since Friday evening.

<p“All east and westbound lanes from Sarnia to the 401, and from the 401 split to the 402, it’s closed,” Sanchuk stated in a video.

<p“You cannot use the 402.”

If you’re stuck, “rest assured we do have resources coming to you,” he said, advising drivers to intermittently run their vehicles for warmth.

<p“We are eventually going to arrive to you, so please give us that time,” he added.

For everyone else, stay home, he emphasized.

<p“If you don’t need to travel, stay off the roadways. They’re impassable. Do not put yourself in any unnecessary risk or endanger first responders who may have to come and rescue you.”

The weather service issued blowing snow and cold alerts for the region on Saturday morning.

The Town of Plympton-Wyoming also announced closures on Michigan and Confederation lines through a news release.

Lambton County activated its emergency operations center for coordinating responses during this event and declared it a significant weather occurrence.

If there’s an emergency call 911 or dial 811 for non-urgent medical issues as advised by county officials.

“Public safety is our top priority,” deputy warden Jeff Agar stated in a news release.

“We are asking residents to take this situation seriously, avoid unnecessary travel and adhere to all road closures and safety advisories.”
