The three men from Ontario who are facing charges for having materials that could be turned into explosives were reportedly seeking funding to develop a military system aimed at countering drone attacks.
The individuals involved, Jerry Tong, Zekun Wang, and Fei (Frank) Han, created promotional videos for their project, showcasing a device that could fit in the back of a pickup truck. The latest video, which has been viewed by , was uploaded on October 25, 2025.
“We are building a mobile and low-cost system capable of detecting and defeating micro and mini uncrewed aerial systems,” Tong stated in one of the three videos titled MORSLAB Pitch Presentation.
<p He further elaborated that the team is "taking on the challenge of stopping weaponized drones armed with a hand grenade and small explosives."
Tong, Wang, and Fei, along with Feiyang (Astrid) Ji-who does not appear in the videos-are all facing charges linked to a trespassing incident reported by Western University on January 24, 2026.

After Tong and Wang were taken into custody, law enforcement spent several days searching a nearby residence where Wang, Fei, and Ji lived. Their investigation also extended to two other homes associated with Orleans and Gatineau, Quebec.
The group now faces various charges including possession of a loaded restricted firearm, firearms manufacturing, as well as possession of high explosives along with chemicals used for making them.
In verified videos filmed inside Western University’s Claudette Mac Kay-Lassonde Pavilion, Tong explains that they expect their drone defense system to be fully operational by August 2026.

He mentioned that they are looking for financial support from “several different military research development programs” while responding to “the Canadian Armed Forces and NATO military demand.” He points out the growing use of drone warfare seen in Ukraine.

The videos feature multiple renderings and animations depicting their weapons system. It’s designed to be mounted on a modified pickup truck where it would detect drones using infrared sensors.
The accused claim their system could track down drones by disrupting their onboard electronics through bursts of microwave radiation.
The pitch video shows scenes of someone mixing chemicals in a flask alongside footage capturing an intense chemical reaction.
“We have our own chemical lab on site capable of synthesizing primary and secondary energetics,” Tong said.
Tong also noted in his presentation while displaying footage of Wang working on the equipment in what has been confirmed as parked at 212 Chesham Pl., that they had several vehicles ready to test their system.
More details on the accused emerge
The pitch video provides insights into each man’s background involved in this case.
Tong shares he studied integrated engineering at Western University while starting up his own 3D printing business which benefited from Western Accelerator program helping young entrepreneurs connect with mentors.
“Currently I work as a contractor investigating international fraud,” Tong said; A spokesperson from National Bank Financial confirmed his previous employment there.
