‘Don’t be pooping on the beach,’ Doug Ford says of Ontario town saga

Anybody heading Wasaga Seashore shouldn’t be “pooping on the beach,” Premier Doug Ford says because the Ontario city fights again towards what it says are deceptive social media posts.

These posts declare individuals are defecating within the sand at Wasaga Seashore Provincial Park, and the city’s mayor says Wasaga Seashore’s picture is being “gravely harmed” by them.

“It’s a very popular beach,” Ford stated at an unrelated press convention on Wednesday.

“They have no proof people are pooping in the park.”

The saga started final month after a TikTok person went viral for claiming in a video defecation at Wasaga Seashore Provincial Park has been an ongoing problem for years.

The person, Natty Lynn, stated individuals have been organising small tents and digging holes to make use of as washrooms. In that video, she stated she doesn’t let her youngsters dig within the sand on Seashore 1.

Smith stated at a particular council assembly that the city’s fame was “being gravely harmed” as a result of issues from residents and vacationers relating to the standard of care at Wasaga Seashore Provincial Park, which is provincially owned and managed.

He launched a prolonged assertion in July denouncing the posts as “complaints that lack evidence and promote misinformation.”

“The town has received no evidence — from residents, visitors or the Ontario government — to verify that any undesirable, unsanitary behaviour has occurred on the beach areas that make up Wasaga Beach Provincial Park,” Smith stated.

“If any evidence comes to light, I assure you that we will be quick to act.”

A spokesperson for the surroundings ministry advised Ontario Chronicle final month Wasaga Seashore Provincial Park employees “have not observed this behaviour during their regular patrols of the beachfront or in response to any complaints.”

One other ministry spokesperson stated that employees have “occasionally received complaints about defecation or urination on beaches since 2020, however no specific evidence of these allegations has been found.”

Ford stated he has given $1 million in funding to Wasaga Seashore to “build bathrooms and hire more staff.”

“Folks, don’t be pooping on the beach. Simple as that. We have no proof of it either,” Ford stated.
