“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
Franz (Frank) Ellenberger was born on August 4, 1936 in Kapetanovo, Yugoslavia (Croatia). He passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026 at the age of 89 surrounded by his family. He was the son of Johann and Adele Ellenberger and is now reunited with his brother Hans Ellenberger (2023) and sister Katharina Hetzel (2024).
A dedicated family man, Frank is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Katharina “Katy” Ellenberger (nee Fleisch). He treasured his two children and their spouses: son Kurt Ellenberger (Claudia) and daughter Karin Kouvelas (William). Also surviving are sister-in-law Margaret Ellenberger and brothers-in-law Jacob Hetzel and Henry Fleisch (Cindy). His greatest joy came from his three granddaughters-Meighan Finn (Joshua), Jessica Dobos (Tomas), and Klara Ellenberger-who filled his life with light just as he did theirs.
Frank was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church Windsor where he joyfully sang in the German Choir. He had a deep love for music with a beautiful voice that brought happiness to many. Frank could sing for any occasion. Proud of his German heritage, he was an active member of the Teutonia Club in Windsor where he helped organize international choir tours across Canada and Germany, sharing both good music and infectious cheer with audiences everywhere. Always ready to help out when needed-at church, at the Teutonia Club or for family and friends-he enjoyed playing golf or cards with buddies.
Frank retired in 1999 after dedicating nearly four decades to Ford Motor Company and Dominion Forge. His kind heart, generosity, selflessness, along with faithful service to family, church, and community will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In recent years Frank lived at Extendicare Tecumseh alongside his wife. The family wishes to express gratitude to Extendicare staff for their compassionate care during Frank’s time there.
To honor Frank’s memory donations can be made to First Lutheran Church (Click Here) or First Lutheran Christian Academy (Click Here), which would mean a lot to the family.
