June 12, 1933 – December 15, 2025

Myrtle Coghlan passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, at her home in Thunder Bay. She was born “Margaret Myrtle Coghlan” in Fort William on June 12, 1933. Most people knew her simply as “Myrtle,” and she was loved for her warm personality and caring nature. After a long career as a civil servant in Ottawa, Myrtle returned to Thunder Bay and eventually made St. Joseph’s Heritage her home.

With her generous spirit and commitment to her faith, Myrtle dedicated much of her time to volunteering. She especially focused on helping those in need or dealing with health challenges. For example, she supported St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church by assisting with their weekly mass at St. Joseph’s Hospital Chapel; bringing communion to patients who were bedridden and lending a hand at the hospital’s gift shop.

Myrtle is predeceased by her parents Dan (D. H.) and Marion Coghlan along with siblings Patsy, Mary Therese, Dorothy, and Jack. Her surviving siblings include Colleen Chiasson, Joe Coghlan & Robert Coghlan from Thunder Bay; Norma Balacko from Winnipeg; Sharon Martindale from Waterloo; and Sam Coghlan from Harrington. With such a large family, there are many nieces and nephews left behind (though sadly some of that generation have already passed). Myrtle had a talent for writing beautiful letters. She was a caring sister and aunt who will be missed deeply.

The Funeral Mass for Myrtle Coghlan will be held at 10:00 a. m. on Friday, May 1st at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church located at 292 Red River Road. A reception will follow at Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel on 21 North Court Street.

If you wish to honor Myrtle’s memory with donations, please consider the St. Andrew’s R. C. Church Building Fund or the St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay. You can also leave online condolences at www. sargentandson. com.
