Ontario Construction News
The 39th Costco in Ontario is being built in Oakville as demolition teams work to take down existing stores at the Rio Can Centre, making way for a new location set to open in 2027.
Heavy machinery like dump trucks, bulldozers, and large excavators are on-site to remove buildings and create space for over 300 underground parking spots that will support a retail area with 15,660 square metres of shopping space.
The development will also feature more than 670 surface parking spaces, sixteen bike racks, and a gas station. Costco plans to occupy about one-fourth of the Rio Can Centre, including the parking lot and gas station.
In other news, Costco Wholesale opened its tenth Canadian Business Centre in early December. This new facility spans 137,000 square feet and is a conversion of the original Costco Newmarket, which recently moved to a bigger property just north of Toronto.
The new East Gwillimbury Costco Business Centre has created 240 jobs locally and is now the fifth such centre in Ontario as part of a national expansion plan by Costco.
Open to all members of Costco, more than 70 percent of products offered here are unique to the Business Centre and are designed to cater to businesses of all sizes.
