Ottawa Ontario Provincial Police have announced the arrest of an 18-year-old man suspected of committing a homicide in Renfrew County, located west of Ottawa, on Wednesday night.

Ontario Provincial Police had been searching for an 18-year-old man after a body was discovered west of Ottawa on Wednesday night. (Teghan Beaudette/CBC) On Nov. 30, 2023, Trey Gagnon pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter and received a sentence of 12 years from Ontario Court Justice Jeffery Richardson. With time already served in pre-sentence custody, he has about another 10.5 years remaining to serve.
Ontario Provincial Police confirmed they have apprehended a suspect linked to a murder case in Renfrew County west of Ottawa late Wednesday evening.
A news release from Killaloe OPP on Thursday morning stated that they were searching for Trey Gagnon, an 18-year-old from Laurentian Valley Township.
The OPP tweeted around 1:30 p. m. announcing that he had been found and taken into custody on a second-degree murder charge.
Police responded to a residence in Eganville within the Township of Bonnechere Valley just before 9 p. m. on Wednesday where they discovered someone deceased, according to the news release.
No additional information regarding the victim has been shared. Following Gagnon’s arrest, OPP indicated there were no ongoing risks to public safety.
The Renfrew County District School Board reported that four schools went into “hold and secure” mode but later confirmed that this status was lifted around 11:25 a. m.
Eganville is situated approximately 130 kilometres west of downtown Ottawa.
