Ontario police have confirmed they’ve identified the remains of a second victim in the ongoing murder investigation in Simcoe, Ontario.

The remains, discovered last week in a wooded area off Highway 6, west of Caledonia in Haldimand County, have been identified as belonging to 49-year-old Robert Sykes from Simcoe.

Authorities say the cause of death has been ruled as homicide.

Prior to this identification, Ontario Provincial Police had reported that Sykes was missing and feared to be another victim after a woman was found deceased in a Simcoe residence on October 5.

A 45-year-old man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder related to the woman’s death; authorities later revealed that he is her son.

If anyone has information regarding this case, they are urged to reach out to the OPP.

This report by The Canadian Press was first on October 23, 2025.
