A coroner’s inquest is set to take place regarding the death of a 22-year-old man who was shot by a police officer in Kingston, Ont., over six years ago.
Dr. Armita Rahmani, the supervising coroner for the area including Kingston, states that the inquest will look into the details surrounding Evan Freeman’s death.
Freeman passed away on Sept.12, 2019, after being shot by a police officer during an attempted arrest.
The Ontario police watchdog reported that this incident occurred when officers confronted a man who was assaulting someone else.
The Special Investigations Unit later determined that no criminal charges would be filed against the officer involved in shooting Freeman.
The jury at the coroner’s inquest may suggest measures aimed at preventing future fatalities, and a date for the proceedings has not yet been established.
