A 50-year-old man has died and a 25-year-old man is facing charges following a confrontation in a Brampton parking lot, reportedly over a parking space.

A 50-year-old man from Brampton, Ont., lost his life during a dispute over a parking spot in Brampton, according to the victim’s girlfriend.

In an interview with Toronto on Thursday, Lidia Vaiman shared that her boyfriend, Chris Shanab, was heading to work on the evening of January 12 and intended to stop by his regular store for cigarettes.

“As far as we know, he never made it into the store. He was left on the ground. He was found at 6:15 (p. m.). He was taken to the hospital. From what we understand, it started over a parking spot,” Vaiman said.

According to law enforcement officials, Shanab got into a verbal argument with another man in a parking lot near Castlemore Road and Mc Vean Drive around 6 p. m.

The situation escalated into physical violence, leading to Shanab being attacked, police reported. He was rushed to the hospital but passed away three days later after being removed from life support.

‘A heart of gold’

Vaiman expressed her struggle to comprehend why this occurred since she believes her boyfriend didn’t deserve such an end.

She described Shanab as an “amazing” and “kind” individual with a great sense of humor.

“Chris had a heart of gold,” Vaiman stated, noting that her boyfriend had cared for his father for nine years.

“Anything I ever needed, he was always there for me. Anything his friends needed, he was always there for them.”

Vaiman mentioned that her boyfriend’s wallet and cellphone are still unaccounted for.

Rod Compton also struggled with disbelief at losing his best friend so suddenly.

“My dad just passed away recently. I’m not even over my dad’s death yet. And now my best friend , I hear about my best friend being gone , so it hurt me pretty hard,” he told Toronto.

Earlier this week , Peel police used security footage collected from the convenience store to identify and arrest Abdifatah Ahmed , age 25. They charged him with manslaughter.

The exact cause of death hasn’t been disclosed. It’s unclear if Shanab died due to being punched or if he slipped and fell during the incident.Brampton parking lot Chris Shanab was killed in this Brampton plaza allegedly over a parking spot.

“In this case , what really separates the three (is that ) first-degree murder has some sort of premeditation and planning that’s required. The real difference between second-degree murder and manslaughter is intent to cause serious harm or kill someone ,” Peel police media relations officer Tyler Bell-Morena explained to .

“And in this case , we do not believe the person who has been arrested intended to kill this man.”
