Peterborough County OPP has made an arrest after finding stolen vehicles at a chop shop in Buckhorn.

On January 29, 2026, just after noon, officers received a tip about a possible stolen vehicle’s location. They went to a business in the Buckhorn area. Police were informed that one of the units was leased, but there wasn’t much information available about its owner.

The next day, January 30, 2026, the OPP Peterborough/Northumberland Community Street Crime Unit executed a search warrant at the leased part of the business where the suspected vehicle was found. Inside the unit, they discovered several stolen vehicles that had been dismantled and prepared for shipping.

During the search, officers seized parts from at least 13 newer-model stolen vehicles, along with a forklift, various tools, and other items believed to belong to theft victims. They also uncovered several license plates thought to be from previously stolen vehicles located on-site.

While investigating, officers learned about the individual connected to the unit and arrested him shortly afterward. The suspect was taken to the Peterborough County OPP detachment.

Wajdi Shamsa (age 41) of Toronto was arrested and charged with;

• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

The suspect was held for bail and is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.

If you have any information regarding criminal activity, OPP encourages you to report tips by calling 1-888-310-1122 or reach out anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
