Dec. 27th, 1930 – Jan. 16th, 2026
With deep sadness, the family of Emilio Marrello, a cherished husband, father, Nonno and Bisnonno, shares the news of his peaceful passing on January 16, 2026, at the age of 95. He was born to Giandomenico and Franceschina (Guercio) Marrello in Grimaldi, Italy and was the third of seven siblings. Often spoiled by his mother and sisters, he was truly the favorite. Hard work and determination defined Emilio’s early years spent growing up in a small village during wartime. At just 18 years old, he served for eighteen months in the Italian military.
In 1959, Emilio moved to Port Arthur, Ontario to be with his future wife and seek a better life. He held various jobs over the years primarily in construction until joining Hawker Siddley (Canada Car) in 1973; it later became Bombardier. He took pride in being a finisher on the line there until he retired in 1996. For over 56 years he was an active member of the Italian Society of Port Arthur and also dedicated many years to St. Anthony’s Parish.
Emilio married his soulmate Eleonora (Norina) Mauro on April 7th, 1959. They soon welcomed their first child John followed by daughters Franca, Anna and Cindy. A devoted provider who cared deeply for his family; they fondly remember picnics at Boulevard and trips to Merla-Mae for ice cream.
Living life to the fullest was important to Emilio. In his younger days he loved fishing and hunting as well as playing poker with brothers-in-law and friends. He also enjoyed raising canaries for many years and took great pride in making homemade wine, salami and tomato sauce. However, nothing brought him more joy than tending to his garden-especially his tomatoes-in an impressive greenhouse filled with plants including plum trees, grapevines and cherry trees right up until he turned 94! This illustrated not only his commitment to a healthy lifestyle but also showcased how much he adored nature. Above all else though was his unconditional love for family; he’d do anything for them.
Emilio is survived by Norina-his beloved wife of 66 years-son John (Laurie), daughters Franca, Anna (Tony) Tesolin and Cindy (Carlo) Fanti along with grandchildren Christin (Hazem), Cassandra (Matt), Courtney, Isabella, Sienna and Olivia who brought him so much joy throughout their time together! He felt blessed having three great-grandchildren whom he cherished immensely: Zahra , Zayn , and Zélie were particularly dear to him while he eagerly anticipated welcoming another little princess due this March! Additionally , he leaves behind loving sisters Delfina Miniaci & Mafalda Miniaci from Vancouver along with sisters-in-law Lina Colistro , Alba Filice , Rose Mauro & brother-in-law Tony Costantino plus numerous nieces & nephews both here in Canada & across Italy.
He is preceded by parents; brother Antonio; sisters Luisa , Maria & Anna ; alongside many brothers/sisters-in-law. Also preceding him is daughter Maria Theresa who sadly passed away during infancy.
