On Saturday afternoon, Ontario Provincial Police announced a shelter-in-place order for Simcoe due to an active situation involving “potentially armed individuals,” according to their statement.
Officers were dispatched to the vicinity of Kent and Union streets just before 1 p. m. following a report of a possible gunshot. Consequently, Colborne Street North, Union Street, Young Street, and Kent Street were closed off.
The order was lifted at 8:20 p. m.
The OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, along with members from the Emergency Response Team, OPP Canine Services, and Crisis Negotiators supported the ongoing investigation. Thankfully, there have been no reports of injuries.
