A 32-year-old man from Brampton has been charged with careless driving after police reported that his dump truck, with its box elevated, collided with the Langstaff Road overpass on Highway 400 southbound early Friday morning. This incident led to the closure of the collectors’ lanes while inspectors evaluate potential structural damage.
The accident occurred around 2:30 a. m. on Friday when, according to OPP, a dump truck leaving a nearby construction site struck the underside of the Langstaff Road overpass while traveling southbound with its rear box still raised.
The crash completely detached the box from the truck and caused noticeable damage to the concrete structure above. Fortunately, no injuries were reported despite the serious nature of the collision.
As of 7:05 a. m., the southbound collectors’ lanes at Langstaff are still closed. The on-ramp from westbound Langstaff Road is also shut down, but the on-ramp from eastbound Langstaff remains open.
Authorities have stated there is no estimated time for reopening, urging drivers to find alternate routes during their morning commute.
Structural engineers have been summoned to assess the overpass and gauge how much damage has been done. Officials indicate that this closure might take some time to ensure safe repairs can be made.
