Mirella Spadotto (née Famiglio) passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026 at the age of 94, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 23, 1931 to Luigi and Rosina in Azzano Decimo, Italy. Mirella grew up in Italy with her three sisters, many friends, and neighbors-eventually falling in love with the boy next door, Giuseppe. Their love flourished into a marriage that led them to build a life together in Windsor, Ontario where they raised their family.
Mirella had a sharp wit and a great sense of humor. As a caring mother and adored Nonna, she always looked forward to spending time with her family and sharing wise words. She dedicated herself to her garden, growing vegetables that she would transform into delicious pastas and risottos for everyone. Proud of her Italian roots, she was also a member of the Italian Women’s Club G. Caboto for 68 years. Mirella had a special way of making people feel valued; whether it was showing them her hidden raspberry bush or sharing old photographs while reminiscing about her life in Italy and Canada.
Family meant everything to Mirella. She cherished her children, Eros (Lisa) and Denise (Paul Greco), and was the doting Nonna of Nicole, David, and Gioia. Daily phone calls and weekly visits with her kids and grandkids were precious moments for her. She is also survived by her nephews Ivo (Shirley) and Lou (Charlene)-who she regarded as another set of children-as well as her sister Guerrina, along with many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her parents along with sisters Cila and Iole preceded her in death as did her husband Giuseppe.
Mirella cared deeply for her family, friends, and faith. She was kind-hearted, gracious, and strong-willed. Her love is felt by so many. While she’s gone to be with God and Giuseppe now, she’ll be remembered through the stories she told, the recipes she shared, and all those moments filled with love during her wonderful life. She will be missed.
