Joseph Russell Toy 1956-2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Joseph Russell Toy on October 31, 2025, at the age of 69. Joe was loved by everyone who crossed his path, but his biggest love was for his family. He was one of five children born to William and Rose Mary (Vowles) Toy (both deceased) in London, Ontario. His three wonderful daughters-Samantha (Ben) Walker from Fredericton, Jessica (Jason) Carswell, and Abigail (Shane) Carswell from Sturgeon Falls-are left to carry on his memory. He was a doting Grampsy to Alexis and Owen Carswell, Annabella Carswell, and Adeline Walker, all of whom will miss him deeply.
He shared a special bond with his brothers Fred (Jan) Toy and Mike (Maureen) Toy, as well as sister Kathy (Phil) White. He was predeceased by sister Sandra Toy. To his nephews and great nieces and nephews, he was known affectionately as UJ; they looked up to him and held him dear in their hearts. Joe will also be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and co-workers from Viking Pump Company where he dedicated 33 years of service.
The mother of his three children and a good friend, Tracy (Wood/Toy) Tonkin (Eric), is also grieving this loss.
While family brought him immense joy, Joe also cherished other interests like golf, card games, shopping trips, listening to Billy Joel or Burton Cummings music, enjoying bonfires at the cottage, dousing everything in Frank’s Red Hot Sauce, going to Delaware Speedway events, and celebrating Christmas. He took pride in decorating outdoors with the help of his three elves.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the excellent care Joe received at West Nipissing General Hospital and Au Chateau Retirement Home.
Visitation will take place at Mc Farlane & Roberts Funeral Home located at 2240 Wharncliffe Rd. S., Lambeth Ontario on Friday November 7th from 7-9 pm and Saturday November 8th from 10-12. A celebration of life will follow at St. John the Divine Parish at 390 Base Line Rd W., London starting at 1pm. The family warmly invites everyone to join them for lunch back at the funeral home at 3pm where pizza and chicken wings will be served along with his favorite date square dessert and other sweet treats as per Joe’s wishes.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
