Ontario Provincial Police have charged a driver who was traveling the wrong way on the QEW Fort-Erie near Oakville Wednesday evening.
Officers from Burlington responded to reports of a grey sedan going against traffic on the highway near Third Line at about 7:13 p. m.
According to investigators, the sedan initially was driving correctly before colliding with a tractor trailer near Third Line, leaving behind its bumper and licence plate.
The vehicle then proceeded in the wrong direction along the shoulder for about 2 km before exiting at Kerr Street.
Police discovered the car in a parking lot close to Dorval Drive and Kerr Street in Oakville.
Detectives identified and located a 26-year-old man from Burlington, charging him with offenses such as operating a vehicle while impaired, dangerous operation, and failing to stop after an accident.
Authorities reported that there were no injuries due to this “irresponsible behaviour.”
The driver has been released on an undertaking and is expected to appear at Milton courthouse on May 4.
