A snowfall alert is still active as a winter storm affects much of southern Ontario, leading to the cancellation of all school transportation in Peterborough City and County.
Environment Canada predicts 15 to 25 centimetres of snow, with heavy snowfall at times making visibility poor. Local blowing snow is also anticipated, which will make driving conditions tough.
Snowfall is expected to persist throughout today and will begin to ease off tonight. A significant drop in temperature along with cold wind chills are adding to the already difficult conditions, especially during the morning.
Consequently, Student Transportation Services of Central Ontario (STSCO) has suspended all bus and transportation services for the day.
This cancellation impacts all schools within the STSCO area, including Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board, as well as Conseil scolaire Mon Avenir schools in Peterborough City and County.
Schools will remain open for students who can safely attend; however, families are advised that no bus service will be available.
Drivers are encouraged to prepare for quickly changing road conditions, especially during peak travel hours, and to allow extra time for their journeys.
