Despite the loss, the Pack remains one point ahead of the Generals in the OHL standings
The Sudbury Wolves aimed to build on their winning streak as they hosted the Oshawa Generals at Sudbury Arena on Sunday afternoon, but things didn’t go as planned.
Fresh off a 3-1 victory against the Sarnia Sting on Friday night at home, the Pack was eager to keep that energy alive.
Initially, everything seemed promising with the Wolves jumping out to a 3-0 lead. However, six unanswered goals from the Generals turned that advantage into a disappointing 6-3 defeat, leaving Sudbury with a record of 9-19-1. This puts them at the bottom of the Ontario Hockey League standings, sitting in 18th place out of 20 teams.
On Sunday, Jaden Cholette started in goal for Oshawa while Karsen Chartier took his position once more for Sudbury.
At 6:44 into the first period, Sudbury scored first as Artem Gonchar netted his seventh goal of the season right up close to Cholette, assisted by Vladimir Provorov. That would be all for scoring in that period.
Vladimir Provorov doubled down just 3:13 into the second period with his first career Ontario Hockey League goal-a wrist shot that slipped past Cholette’s glove side. He was assisted by Alex Pharand and Daniel Berehowsky, putting Sudbury ahead 2-0.
With just over eleven minutes remaining in the second frame, Ethan Dean found the back of the net for Sudbury after a nice passing play involving Artem Gonchar and Blake Clayton. This extended their lead to 3-0.
A mere minute later, Onni Kalto scored his fifth goal of the season for Oshawa after deking around Chartier. He was assisted by Luke Posthumus and Haoxi Wang-putting them on board at 3-1.
Midway through this period saw Owen Griffin from Oshawa score alone in front of Chartier for his fourteenth goal of this season. Assisted by Posthumus and Brady Blaseg, it brought Sudbury’s lead down to just one at 3-2 heading into intermission.
Around 8:07 into the third period, Oshawa evened things up thanks to Posthumus’ seventh goal-a slap shot past Chartier-and with an assist from Wang made it a tied game at 3-3.
With Wolves’ Captain Nathan Villeneuve serving a two-minute minor penalty for roughing during this play led directly to Harrison Franssen’s power-play goal-a one-timer marking his ninth tally this season-with assists credited to Lucas Moore and Owen Griffin-giving Oshawa a new lead at 4-3.
Just forty seconds later and with Luca Blonda also penalized for checking from behind, Franssen struck again-his second of this match-also on power play via another quick shot assisted by Aiden O’Donnell and Posthumus-which widened their lead further to 5-3.
The final blow came when O’Donnell sealed Oshawa’s comeback win with an empty-netter; Franssen provided him with an assist here as well-bringing about a final scoreline of 6-3.
The Sudbury Wolves will aim to bounce back on December twelfth when they face off against Owen Sound Attack at home; puck drop is set for seven oh five p. m.
