indicates that the renamed eastern Ontario riding of Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke has re-elected Conservative Cheryl Gallant.
This is one of only two local ridings that maintained its boundaries through a redistribution, though it now carries a new name.
The residents here voted Liberal until Cheryl Gallant shifted it for the Canadian Alliance back in 2000. She has held onto it ever since.
The nine-time election winner previously helped run a family business and worked in economic development in Pembroke.
The regular independent boundary review after the 2021 census decided it was better to acknowledge the Algonquin Anishinābe history in the area than to reflect its small portion of Nipissing District.
It consists mainly of Renfrew County and includes Garrison Petawawa and Pikwàkanagàn.
This time around, seven candidates competed. Liberal Cyndi Mills finished second after her party’s third-place showing in 2021.
