John Bertram Leonard Robinson, (aged 78), Ph. D., P. Eng., born in Montreal, passed away peacefully at home in Green Hill on December 7th, 2025. He was surrounded by family and love.
John was an incredibly talented individual who cherished his family, work, travel, and music. He was fluent in both English and French. He earned his Ph. D. in Civil Engineering from the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. John’s career spanned over 50 years in transportation safety and design. He took pride in being one of Canada’s foremost traffic and road safety engineers. He started his career with the City of Ottawa and also worked as a university professor at three different institutions, for private companies, and ran his own consulting firms. His professional skills took him around the world. He once told his daughter that he chose to be a civil engineer because it allowed him to work with cars without being a mechanic.
John had a true spirit of adventure. He loved cars and motorcycles, recently racing cars at the Targa Newfoundland events. A fan of Harley Davidson bikes, he always had a funny story or joke ready to share no matter what was happening around him. You could also count on him to find any chocolate nearby! John was an accomplished musician too; he could play almost anything on the piano after hearing it just once. His faith was important to him, and he regularly attended church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Ina Levo, who he shared six joyful years with. Together they created many moments of happiness together. He leaves behind two children: his daughter Jennifer Robinson (husband Matthew Crome) and son Andrew Robinson (wife Alizeh Hussain Robinson), along with grandson Jared Crome. Also surviving are his two caring sisters-in-law, Wendy Levo and Anne Levo Harrop. John was predeceased by his sister Wendy (Robinson) Beggs but is survived by her two children Mary Lou Batty and John Llambias.
A visitation for John will take place at Eagles Funeral Home in Westville, NS on December 20 from 2 pm to 5 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Green Hill – Alma United Church in Alma, NS on Sunday December 21st at 2:30 pm.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to everyone whose kind care allowed John to stay at home during this time-especially personal caregivers Clare, Monica, Naomi, and the VON team. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s memory to the VON Pictou County or Green Hill – Alma United Church.
… Above all enjoy the ride.
