April 24, 1963 – December 26, 2025
We are heartbroken to share the news of Gerald “Gerry” William Bowler’s unexpected passing at the age of 62 on Friday, December 26, 2025, at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences.
Gerry was born on April 24, 1963, in Port Arthur and spent his entire life in Thunder Bay. He went to Pine Street, Francis Street, and C. D. Howe Public Schools before graduating from Hillcrest High School. A hockey fan since childhood, he played for teams coached by his father at Oliver Road Rec. Centre and later at Volunteer Pool Rec. Centre. Gerry had an impressive shot that could break rink boards from center ice. He also earned a black belt in martial arts which brought him immense pride.
He had a lengthy career with the City of Thunder Bay starting in the Sanitation Department and moving on to the Roads Department until an injury forced his retirement. Gerry found love with Crystal Woodbeck; they built a beautiful life together for over 35 years and got married on August 9, 2014.
A true nature lover, Gerry enjoyed spending time outdoors. He took great pride in his backyard garden designed to protect Monarch Butterflies and provide them a safe habitat. Bird watching and camping were also among his favorite activities. Additionally, he had a soft spot for cats and loved listening to Heavy Metal music loud enough for everyone nearby to enjoy.
With determination and willpower like no other, Gerry achieved whatever he set out to do. He was a gentle soul who fiercely protected those he loved. All who knew him will remember him fondly through the moments they shared together.
Gerry leaves behind his devoted wife Crystal; son Zachary (Gen) Bowler along with grandchildren Sophie and Rayanne Bowler; step-daughter Angel Woodbeck and her children Jordan and Stephanie Edwards; mother Eleanor; step-father Victor Healey; sister Linda (Wayne) Colepaugh with nieces Sara (Chris) Mc Allen and Amy Carlson. He is also survived by step-mother Val Hammerberg; step-siblings Todd Smith, Jason (Lindsey) Smith, Rebecca Smith, Johnny (Kimberly) Bowler; parents-in-law Judy and Edward Woodbeck; brother-in-law Paul Woodbeck; as well as special cousin Karen Curle who was always supportive of him. Many other relatives also survive him.
He was preceded in death by his father Dale “Bud” Bowler and aunt Mary (Ken) Curle along with other family members.
Cremation has occurred, and a Celebration of Life will take place later with details announced once arranged. Friends wishing to honor Gerry’s memory may consider making donations to the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society.
The arrangements have been made through the WESTFORT CHAPEL located at 420 West Gore Street.
