Anything written here is conjecture, but the stolen vehicle angle is a very good bet.

There was always something about the kidnapping and presumed murder of Elnaz Hajtamiri.

A stench that defiantly stated: This goes beyond a jealous boyfriend refusing to move on.

At one news conference, I suggested this to a York Regional Police detective. I asked: “Ten people involved in a domestic dispute? Seems like something more here.”

That, of course, did not elicit a response and, in fact, ended that particular 2024 presser.

Fourth anniversary

Monday marked the fourth anniversary of the disappearance of the 37-year-old Iranian immigrant who had dreams of establishing a cake decorating business.

Cops now say that they have tied the investigation to multiple jurisdictions, including Timmins, the Greater Toronto Area, Quebec, Dubai, and the United Arab Emirates. OPP detectives are now appealing for any information from those areas.

The tragic fate of Elnaz Hajtamiri was never about a broken-hearted beau.

On Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022, around 8:30 p.m., Hajtamiri was abducted from a relative’s home on Trailwood Place in Wasaga Beach by three suspects. Her body has never been found.

Low-rent thugs

Weeks before, she was attacked in the underground garage of her Richmond Hill condo.

Her former boyfriend, Mohammed Lilo, is the suspected mastermind and is charged with kidnapping and murder and will be going on trial later this year. A coterie of low-rent thugs has also been arrested and charged.

Jaspreet Singh, 24, of Delta, B.C., and Sukhpreet Singh, 23, of Mississauga, are accused in the December 2021 attack on Elnaz Hajtamiri. Jaspreet Singh, 24, of Delta, B.C., and Sukhpreet Singh, 23, of Mississauga, are accused in the December 2021 attack on Elnaz Hajtamiri. YRP

“Elnaz’s family and friends have endured years of missed memories, celebrations and holidays without her, and we remain committed to finding the answers they deserve,” OPP Det. Insp. Steven Martell said in a news release.

“While we cannot speak to the specific ties our investigation has to several regions, we know someone in those areas has information that could help, and we urge them to come forward.”

Remember all those high-end vehicles being stolen off the streets of Canadian cities and then finding their way onto ships at the organized crime-controlled Port of Montreal? Bound for places like Dubai, UAE and Africa, as the first reported?

“It’s not a domestic incident, that’s not what it’s about,” one law enforcement source alleged. “It’s about stolen trucks being shipped to Africa and the Middle East by a criminal gang.”

Two of the men accused of the attempted kidnapping and attempted murder weeks before she disappeared — Harshdeep Binner, 23, and Riyasad Singh, 22 — were allegedly up to their eyeballs in an Edmonton stolen truck ring.

Stolen trucks

Cops say the pair were two of three Ontario men charged with stealing 20 Ford F-150 trucks in the Edmonton area. They allegedly targeted models from 2017 to 2020 with push-button ignitions. The vehicles start at around $48,000 retail.

Did Elnaz Hajtamiri know too much? Anything written here is conjecture, but the stolen vehicle angle is a very good bet.

Lilo has pleaded not guilty, and none of the charges against him have been proven in court.

Woman has never been located

“While several individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, Elnaz has not been located,” cops said in the news release. “The Huronia West OPP Crime Unit continues to investigate under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).”

A joint $100,000 reward is being offered by the Province of Ontario and the York Regional Police for information that will lead to Elnaz’s whereabouts. Elnaz is described as approximately 5-foot-3 with a slim build and black hair.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Huronia West OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or through the dedicated tipline at 1-833-728-3415. Should you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
