Sarnia police report that a man has been charged with several crimes, including attempted murder, after another man was run over by an SUV over the weekend.
Officers arrived at a home on Afton Drive just after midnight on Saturday, according to a news release from the Sarnia Police Service.
They stated that there had been an argument between the suspect and a 40-year-old male victim, which led to the suspect driving his red Mitsubishi SUV onto the victim’s front lawn and hitting his e-bike.
The accused then got out of his vehicle and approached the house while holding a metal pipe, police said.
He later left the scene.
However, later that same day, around 1:46 p. m., officers were called back to the area for a report of a pedestrian being hit by a car.
They discovered a man with serious injuries.
Video evidence showed a red Mitsubishi SUV reversing aggressively toward the victim, hitting him, running over him, stopping briefly, then moving forward and running him over again. The vehicle then drove away from the scene.
The victim was taken to the hospital and was reported to be in stable condition, according to police.
A 21-year-old man has been charged with:
Attempted murder. Dangerous operation of a conveyance. Mischief under $5,000. Fail to comply with release order.
