With sadness, the family of Donald Calder (age 73) announces his passing after a short fight with cancer. Donald was a loving husband to his wife of 51 years, Phyllis (Williamson), and a proud father to his two sons, Dwayne (Amanda) and Adam (Jodi Boutilier). He will be greatly missed by his adored grandchildren Katelyn, Cameron, Natalie, Caleb, Lani, and Mia, who brought him so much pride and happiness.

He is survived by two sisters Jean Landry and Norma (Cecil) Skinner, three brothers Jackie (Angela), Ross (Marion), and Robert (Connie), along with many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents William and Mabel, sister Carol, brother-in-law Everett Landry, niece Nyree, and nephew Corey.

Donald enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. A lifelong supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays, he seldom missed a game. He found joy in gardening, loved playing darts with friends, and treasured time spent with family where countless memories were created. He proudly served as President of Westville Legion Branch #35 for many years. His leadership, kindness, and dedication made a meaningful impact on the community. His true passion was teaching and supporting Pictou County Youth Darts over the past decade.

Donald took immense pride in his work during his impressive 41 years at Michelin Tire where he formed lasting friendships. Outside of work, he was always ready to lend a hand but never asked for anything in return.

He’ll be remembered for his friendly smile, sharp humor, and steadfast love for family and friends. His spirit of generosity will continue to inspire everyone who knew him.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Palliative Care Unit at Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow for their outstanding care and compassion. In Donald’s words “everything is great” during his time there.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 18th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Eagles Funeral Home. The funeral service will occur at 2pm on Wednesday, November 19th from the Eagles Funeral Home Chapel. There will be a private burial at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens followed by a reception at Westville Legion Branch #35; everyone is welcome.

If you’d like to make donations please consider Aberdeen Palliative Care Unit or Westville Legion Branch #35 or Pictou County Youth Darts. Family flowers only please.
