Wearne, Thomas David
David passed away peacefully at the age of 87, surrounded by his family after a short illness.
He will be fondly remembered by his wife Colleen, his daughter Patrice and her husband Bill, his son Brian and wife Michelle, his sister-in-law Lorrie Murphy and Andy Thornley, brother-in-law Neil Murphy and wife Joan, and father-in-law Jim Murphy. Additionally, he had a special bond with his cousin Beverley Cawood and her children Jaydee, Dawn, and Jennifer. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Ada (Cissie Smith) Wearne. David received his early education in Windsor at John Campbell and Kennedy Collegiate. He earned a B. Sc. from Assumption University of Windsor; M. Ed. and Ed. D. degrees from Wayne State University; and L. Th from Laud Hall Seminary. He also graduated from the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College in Kingston. David taught at local secondary schools as well as the University of Windsor Faculty of Education. With 22 years of service in the Canadian Forces (Reserves), he retired holding the rank of Lieutenant-colonel and was honored with the Canadian Forces Decoration with bar. In June 2002, David was ordained to Holy Orders serving first as a Deacon at Church of the Ascension before becoming Priest at Good Shepherd Mission in Plymouth, Michigan. He was a knight of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller, a member of Ambassador Branch #143 of the Royal Canadian Legion, and held life membership in Windsor Masonic Lodge #403 as well as Rose Croix. A Celebration of Life will be held at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home- South Chapel, 3048 Dougall Avenue (519-253-7236), on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
A private family interment will take place later in the Memorial Garden at Church of the Ascension. If you wish to honor David’s memory, donations can be made to The Windsor Youth Centre or Street Help instead of sending flowers.
