Here’s what to expect in Brampton on New Year’s Day, Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026:
Open:
Bramalea City Centre. Many restaurants (call ahead or check online hours and delivery options). Most drug stores like Shoppers Drug Mart (check individual stores for hours). Most Rabba Food Stores will be open (check individual stores for hours). Many takeout coffee shops such as Tim Horton’s and Starbucks (check individual stores for hours). Some Brampton Recreation centres. Many outdoor and indoor skating rinks, including the Gore Meadows Covered Outdoor Skating Rink, Chinguacousy Park Skating Recreational Trail, and the Boreham Park rink (check rink status with the city to be sure).
Closed:
Most major stores (call ahead or check online hours and delivery options). All major grocery stores (i. e. Metro, Longo’s). Shoppers World. Government offices, including City Hall, will be closed until Jan. 2. All Brampton Library branches. Banks. All LCBO and Beer Store locations. Canada Post (no mail pickup or delivery). Region of Peel Community Recycling Centres. Waste collection pick-up will be one day later. Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives (PAMA). Service Peel Counters. Service Ontario Counter. Early Years and Child Care Services. Housing Services. Ontario Works.
Transit
Brampton Transit will run on a Sunday/Holiday service schedule with extended New Year’s Eve service and free rides after 7 p. m. GO Transit and Train will operate on a Saturday schedule, with free extended service on New Year’s Eve.

Brampton residents should note a change to their regular waste collection schedule for New Year’s Day, Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.
No garbage, recycling or organics collection will happen on New Year’s Day due to the holiday. Because of this, the collection will shift by one day for the rest of the week.
If your regular pickup day is Thursday, your waste will instead be collected on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026.
Residents are encouraged to put bins at the curb by 7 a. m. on their adjusted collection day and to check their Peel Region waste collection calendar or sign up for reminders to confirm their schedule.
