It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Cesidio (Joe) Macari’s passing, a loving husband, father, and nonno. His wife, Del (nee Gaetz), who shared 63 wonderful years with him, will hold their memories together forever in her heart. His daughters Mary Ann (Rob) Fazekas, Michelle (Frank) Moore, and Lisa Forte were his pride and joy, along with his grandchildren Matthew (Ashley), Daniel, Jessica (Jordan), Michaela (Michael), Shannon, Ava, and Madeline. Joe was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Casey and Levi, who always brought a smile to Nonno’s face.
He was predeceased by his father Gaetano Macari and mother Maria (nee Socci), as well as siblings Antonio, Luciano, Donato, Romana, and Michele.
At the age of 16, he immigrated to North America from Settifrati, Italy on the SS Andrea Doria in search of a better life. He worked tirelessly for Harris Rebar as an iron worker and foreman for most of his adult life until retiring at 65.
Aside from his love for family, he enjoyed gardening and making wine. You could often find him tending to his garden-planting garlic, tying up tomatoes, or caring for his fig tree. He loved biking and walking along the beaches in Grand Bend, the Pinery, and Florida with his wife. We will miss him greatly. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Dr. Cassidy, Kristina (nurse practitioner), Bianca (nurse), and the PSWs who provided compassionate care.
Family and friends are invited to join us at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home – Central Chapel (1700 Tecumseh Rd. E., 519-253-7234) on Sunday January 11th 2026 from 5-8pm with prayers at 7:30pm. Visitation will continue on Monday January 12th 2026 from 10am until the funeral service at 11am. Entombment will follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. Donations in Joe’s memory can be made to Hospice of Windsor and Essex County.
